Boston Legal Cast Season 2 Episode 13

While Paul Lewiston (Rene Auberjonois), senior partner and ex-marine Brad Chase (Mark Valley) and lori colson (Monica Potter), junior partner, fight to maintain the firm`s high reputation, the appearance of Shirley Schmidt (Candice Bergen), founding partner, elevates Boston Legal to an even higher level of serio-comic perfection. Schmidt, a former denny Crane flame, arrives in episode 11 (aptly titled “Schmidt Happens”) as a negotiator with common sense and a pair of large brass cojones capable of standing up to the Crane/Shore behemoth. And while “An Eye for an Eye” (episode 5) is a sublime example of Boston Legal`s clever combination of madness and complexity in the courtroom, it`s the profound implications of episodes like “Tortured Souls” (15) and the season finale “Death Be Not Proud” (a dubious death sentence in Texas) that put these rich and wonderful characters in a clearer light. to expose their soul and the courage to believe in their beliefs. The 27 episodes of the second season of Boston Legal (2005-06) are impressive in quality and quantity and a dazzling showcase for one of the largest television sets. Everything that made Season 1 so entertaining is honed here, often to perfection: While the bad boys residents of the famous Boston law firm Crane, Poole & Schmidt, senior partner Denny Crane (William Shatner) and foreign lawyer Alan Shore (James Spader) continue their campaign of rampant indiscretion, blatant sexism and political incorrectness with Denny`s selfish big cat feeling (and a touch of “mad cow”) and Alan`s passion. for Justice and theatrical shots in the courtroom. The departure of his girlfriend Tara (Rhona Mitra from Season 1) has made Alan thoughtfully lonely, so his male bond with Denny becomes the emotional core of the series, even as he reaches new heights of hilarity in episodes like “Finding Nimmo,” an instant classic in which Denny introduces Alan to the joys of fly fishing. Back in the office, semi-regular actress Betty White goes from murder to theft, only to find herself redeemed as the new “sandwich lady” at C, P&S. And while senior partner Paul Lewiston (René Auberjonois) juggles the company`s ethical dilemmas and bumpy reunion with his drug-addicted daughter (superbly played by Jayne Brook), founding partner Shirley Schmidt (Candice Bergen) dodges the advances of her soon-to-be-remarried ex-husband (Tom Selleck), while she suspects Denny`s future sixth wife (Joanna Cassidy) of digging gold with high stakes. In the midst of it all, Denise (Julie Bowen) faces menacing competition from a new lawyer (Parker Posey) and an elusive love with a dying billionaire (Michael J. Fox) as she plays “friends with perks” with her colleague Brad (Mark Valley), who is only too willing to indulge in her arrangement.

In the case of Denise`s client, who was altruistically abducted by Alan, the knowledge of the woman`s whereabouts – so easily accessible via this information highway (does anyone still call her that?), which we all know and love, the Internet – led to her death. But for the same reason, knowledge can be a real panacea, it can allow the most painful experiences to be bearable if you share this knowledge with others. Denise had been completely cut off from Daniel Post`s suffering, and knowing that he was willing to make an effort to keep her out of her life killed her just as his illness killed him. However, at Alan`s suggestion – whose knowledge of strong women we can assume goes back quite a long way – he knew that it was not in Denise`s nature to be passive and wait for the result she wanted. That`s not Denise`s nature as a lawyer, and it`s certainly not her nature as a person. Alan has figured it out, even though he doesn`t really understand her (or anyone else) for who she is. Most of the time, the worst thing about knowing is not what is known or not known, understood or misunderstood. It`s not what really makes the difference, it`s the who.

In this case, who is Beverly Bridge, the toxic vixen that enchanted Denny, poisoned by love (or is it lust?) and the rest of the big boys (and girls) in Crane, Poole and Schmidt, (Paul, Shirley and Brad, to be exact) in a bit of chaos. I have to admit that it`s strange to see Brad in this administrative environment, but I see him as a bridge between the active right group (Denise, Alan, etc.) and your pure “I own you, wax my shoes” group (called partners Schmidt and Crane, Paul, etc.). He can go back and forth between the two ranks of the company and be considered equal, a position that no other member of the company can claim. On a much, much lighter note – Catherine Piper, we barely knew you when you left the transparent rooms of Crane, Poole and Schmidt. But of course, you come back, with another juicy appearance. Throughout her series of crimes, I kept thinking, “What`s wrong with this woman?” It was Alan who finally understood this. She had a traditional identity crisis – she didn`t know who she was, what she belonged to; Without working for Alan, the pleasure had disappeared from her life and she was left alone at home without giving meaning to her life as Alan`s assistant had been. So she turned to the last thing that had put her in touch with the world she had left behind: crime. Bernard`s murder and the trial that followed were her last connection to Alan and the sense of belonging she lacked, which is why we see her quietly (and quite elegantly) overthrow a clone 7-11. As for the dramatic headline of the episode, while I`m trying to see the other side, I can`t help but believe that the way Alan argued and the way the jury deliberated was right.

There is no doubt that the Internet is an invaluable tool – school work and exactly this journal and forum work have more than proven to me.
